Our continuing care of the cemetery
We are proud of our historic grounds and special cemetery spaces.
The team across the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust work around the year to maintain the grounds of Dandenong Community Cemetery. The team consists of outdoor employees, who cover horticulture, grave-digging, and general maintenance.
Managing our gardens
Our team takes care of the four hectares, consisting of numerous plants and trees. Our grounds provide an ideal environment for a variety of wildlife including birds and reptiles.
We have a close relationship with TAFE for in-house and external horticultural training, which ensures our horticulture employees are specialists.
Over the past 10 years, six SMCT staff have received a total of eights awards including Outstanding Apprentice of the Year at their level, and the much coveted award of "Outstanding Student of the Year Holmesglen Parks and Gardens”.
We are proud that our grounds are used for community recreation. You may find walking groups, bird watching and historical groups enjoying the environment.
All public cemetery land is crown land. This means that when you purchase a grave or memorial location you are not purchasing the land, but purchasing rights to inter on crown land.
It is you and your family’s responsibility to maintain the monument, headstone or plaque in perpetuity while the cemetery is responsible for maintaining the grounds.
Tenure on Cremation Memorials
The recently introduced cremation memorials at Dandenong Community Cemetery may be purchased for a 25 year tenure period or in perpetuity – for all time.
